SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy – University Policy
The University of Biskra is committed to advancing Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by promoting energy efficiency and encouraging the transition toward sustainable energy sources within its campus. The institution recognizes the critical role of energy management in reducing environmental impact and supporting sustainable development, particularly in a region characterized by high energy demand for cooling.
To achieve this objective, the university implements measures aimed at improving energy efficiency across its facilities. These include the gradual adoption of energy-efficient lighting systems, optimization of building operations, and the promotion of responsible energy use among students and staff. Efforts are also made to monitor and manage electricity consumption in order to reduce waste and operational costs.
In addition, the University of Biskra explores opportunities for integrating renewable energy sources, particularly solar energy, given the region’s high solar potential. Pilot projects and research initiatives are encouraged to assess the feasibility of photovoltaic systems and other clean energy technologies that can contribute to reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
The institution also plays a key role in education and research related to energy sustainability, offering academic programs and supporting scientific research in fields such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, and environmental engineering. These activities aim to develop local expertise and innovative solutions adapted to regional challenges.
Furthermore, awareness campaigns and educational initiatives are conducted to promote sustainable energy behaviors within the university community. Through these combined efforts, the University of Biskra contributes to the transition toward a more sustainable and resilient energy system, in alignment with the objectives of SDG 7.
