SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation – University Policy

The University of Biskra is committed to supporting Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) by promoting the efficient use and sustainable management of water resources across its campus. Given the arid climate of the Biskra region, the university recognizes the strategic importance of water conservation and responsible consumption.

To achieve this, the university ensures access to safe and adequate water supply for all students, staff, and visitors. Sanitation facilities are maintained in accordance with health and hygiene standards, ensuring a clean and safe environment throughout the campus. Regular maintenance and monitoring are conducted to prevent water losses and ensure system efficiency.

The institution also promotes water-saving practices by raising awareness among the university community about the importance of reducing water consumption. Educational campaigns and institutional guidelines encourage responsible use of water in daily activities, including in laboratories, residential facilities, and green spaces.

In addition, the University of Biskra supports research and innovation in water management, particularly in areas such as water treatment, reuse, and sustainable irrigation adapted to arid environments. These research efforts contribute to addressing regional water challenges and enhancing resilience to water scarcity.

Efforts are also made to improve wastewater management and sanitation systems, aiming to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainable practices. Through these initiatives, the university aligns its operations and academic mission with the objectives of SDG 6, contributing to the preservation of water resources and public health.
