SDG 2: Zero Hunger – University Policy

The University of Biskra supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) by ensuring that students have access to adequate, safe, and affordable food throughout their academic journey. Recognizing that food security is essential for academic success and well-being, the university works in coordination with public authorities to provide subsidized catering services within university restaurants.

These services aim to guarantee that all students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, can benefit from nutritious and balanced meals at reduced prices. The university ensures that food provision meets basic health and hygiene standards, while maintaining affordability and accessibility across campus facilities.

In addition, the University of Biskra contributes to food security through its academic and research activities, particularly in fields such as agriculture, environmental sciences, and sustainable resource management. Research initiatives often focus on improving agricultural productivity, water use efficiency, and adaptation to arid climates, which are key challenges in the Biskra region.

The institution also promotes awareness of sustainable food systems among students and staff, encouraging responsible consumption and reducing food waste within campus facilities. Educational activities, seminars, and student engagement programs are occasionally organized to highlight the importance of nutrition, food security, and sustainability.

Through these combined efforts, the University of Biskra plays a meaningful role in supporting food security at both the campus and regional levels, aligning its policies and actions with the broader objectives of sustainable development.
