SDG 1: No Poverty – University Policy

The University of Biskra is committed to contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 1 (No Poverty) by promoting equitable access to higher education and supporting students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. The institution recognizes that education is a key driver for poverty alleviation and social mobility, particularly in regions facing economic challenges.

To this end, the university implements a range of support mechanisms aimed at reducing financial barriers. These include facilitating access to government scholarships, subsidized housing, and university catering services at reduced costs. In addition, administrative procedures are designed to ensure that students from low-income families can easily access financial aid and essential services throughout their academic journey.

The University of Biskra also promotes inclusive policies by ensuring equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their socio-economic status, gender, or geographic origin. Special attention is given to students from rural and underprivileged areas, encouraging their enrollment and retention through targeted orientation and support programs.

Furthermore, the university contributes indirectly to poverty reduction by enhancing students’ employability. Through academic training, professional development programs, and partnerships with local stakeholders, the institution equips graduates with the skills needed to access the labor market and improve their economic conditions.

Overall, the University of Biskra’s policy reflects a strong commitment to social responsibility, positioning education as a fundamental tool for reducing poverty and fostering sustainable development at both local and national levels.
