A National Symposium on 8 May 1945 Massacres Symbolism at the Humanities

Biskra University Rector, Pr Debabeche Mahmoud, the Humanities and Social Sciences
Faculty Dean, Pr Missoum Belkacem, and the Humanities Department Head, Pr Ghardaien
Maghnia, run a national symposium, on 7 May 2025.

The title was “The massacres of 8 May 1945 symbolism in the national memory: A Passage to the 1 st November 1954”,
commemorating the 80th anniversary of these painful massacres. Pr Boukhlifi Kouider
Djouhaina chaired the symposium. It began with Holy Qur’an verses recitation, followed by
the national anthem, and then opening speeches by the symposium chairperson, the
humanities department head, the faculty dean and the university Rector. They expressed the
importance of remembering this historical and national connotations collective memory. The
symposium included valuable academic contributions on event and their impact on the
national consciousness. At the end, they read out a series of recommendations and distributed
participation certificates to teachers and guests being proud of Algeria’s history and the
struggle of its people.
