Last Wednesday and Thursday, October 11/12, 2023, the Preventive Medicine Unit at the University of Biskra, in coordination with the Psychological Assistance Centre, organized open doors on health prevention, psychological support, and first-aid in the university environment and in parallel celebration of World Breast Cancer Day. Doctor Ahmed Merdassi supervised the event with the university Rector Pr. Mahmoud Debabeche, the secretary general, Mr Hakim Henano, as well as the vice-rectors and deans of the faculties.

The aim of the event was to acquaint participants with the role and responsibilities of preventive medicine units, particularly in relation to mandatory medical check-ups for both freshmen and other students. These intend to create a health profile for students and to detect and monitor any diseases identified during the check-up process in the university environment. Presentations on breast cancer highlighted that early detection can increase its treatment effectiveness up to 90%.
A dedicated wing displayed informative posters on the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Rahima Gharra, and the dentist Dr. Dareen Moubarak, and the medical team from the complex managed the wing. Under the slogan "early detection is better than cure," the PMU decided to provide breast cancer check-ups to the university community at the central complex.
